I have played pro events so I can gain the experience that I am going to need when I get out there for real. I found that I played some of my best golf because it make you concentrate more and you learn a lot more from your game and other peoples.
Tour Essentials
I always take lots of spare clubs. You never know what can happen at a tournament. The weather changes and your game plan may vary depending on how the course is set up. I have even once snapped my driver getting it out the boot of my car. You learn from these things as you progress. I always take a few training aids with me as well. I have a putting arc that helps me to grove my stroke. I always do 15 minutes putting before I tee off . I love my music and I always make sure I have my Ipod and my speakers to take with me for the hotel room. I listen to certain songs when I practice, in the gym or just chilling out. My phone is key as well, it is good to keep In touch with your friends at home because you are away for long periods of time. Plenty of clothes. I have been known for taking most my wardrobe with me before. You can never have enough outfits though!. Food is almost at the top of the list in my tour essentials. I have to have 6 litres of water in my bag each round and plenty of healthy food. Chicken for good protein and I find that nuts and cereal bars do the trick for me. They just give me enough each time to keep going.
Routine for a Tournament
- Arrive 2 hours 15 minutes before my tee off. I allow 30 minutes to have some breakfast and get my essentials for the day, etc…. card, pin sheets. 10 minutes to get my clubs out the car and get onto the range. 10 minute warm up. Some stretching and hitting a few lob wedges. I then spend 20 minutes hitting 10 balls 50 yards, 100 yards, 150 yards, 200 yards. I then hit my 3 wood and driver. 5 minutes at the end just hitting a few wedges again. 15 minutes chipping and a few bunker shots. 15 minutes putting. Lag putting and short putts is what I work on the most because they are the most important.
- I then have 15 minutes to make my way to the first tee and prepare for the round.
Remember, it is always best to be too well prepared than not at all.
